Junior Women’s Civic Club (JWCC) is providing the “JWCC Scholarship” to female students. The Female high school seniors who are planning to attend an Ohio College or University in the fall of 2018 are can apply. The aim of the scholarship is to provide financial help to female students who have proven themselves academically.

The eligibility criteria for the candidates are as follows:

  • Female high school senior who will attend an Ohio College or University in the Fall of 2018
  • Must have shown volunteer service
  • Must have a minimum of5 GPA
  • Must show financial need
  • Must not be a child or grandchild of a JWCC member

Supporting Documents:

The following documents must also be included:

  • Volunteerism- On a separate piece of paper, in 250 typewritten words or less, please describe your most meaningful volunteer experience.
  • Written Statement- You are required to submit a typed statement with your application. The statement should be no more than two pages (one-sided) and should address the following topics:
  • Academic motivation and interests
  • Explain how you will contribute to our society in the future by volunteering
  • Financial need
  • Career objectives
  • Recommendation Letters- You are required to submit two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic, professional, or volunteer activities. These letters should NOT come from relatives. The letters of recommendation must accompany your application.
  • Transcripts- As a high school senior, please provide an official stamped and signed transcript through 11th grade
  • A copy of your report card from the first semester of your senior year
  • A copy of your letter of acceptance from the Ohio college/university of your choice.

Award Amount:

The winners will be granted a $2000 scholarship award amount.

JWCC’s Undergraduate Service helps students prepare for and apply to undergraduate programs in the USA. We work with our students throughout their high school career to help them grow and mature so that they will be as competitive as possible when applying to college.

Student Profile

When we begin working with a student in high school, we learn as much about the student as we can. Through the development of the student profile, we then help them understand their identity. This process includes:

  • Reviewing the student profile questionnaire, transcripts, and standardized test scores
  • Discussing the student’s extracurricular activities and personal interests
  • Discussing the parents’ specific requirements and needs
  • Establishing short-term goals for succeeding in high school
  • Establishing long-term goals for getting into colleges
  • Creating a student profile that encompasses all of the information gathered


Educational Planning

In order to be a competitive applicant to top colleges, it is vital that our students have a comprehensive educational plan and continued assistance to help guide them through their high school career. We offer:

  • Assistance in choosing appropriate classes and extracurricular activities
  • Advice on standardized test registration and testing dates
  • Recommendations for SAT and TOEFL tutoring options
  • Suggestions for appropriate SAT Subject Tests
  • Monitoring of progress through monthly meetings over Skype, email and face to face
  • Identification of problems and solutions for overcoming them
  • Suggestions for summer internships, schools, or activities that match the student profile


Establishing School List

With over 4000 accredited institutions of higher learning in the USA, it is difficult knowing which schools (to which to apply) (to apply to). Our deep knowledge of the field and our extensive experience connecting students to the right schools ensures that we will choose the universities and colleges that best fit your student. This process includes:

  • Suggesting schools matching student’s profile based on the student assessment
  • Providing an initial college list of schools within the three-tier system (Reach, Target, Likely)
  • Teaching effective ways of research and school outreach
  • Deciding on a final list of ten (10) schools to which the student will apply
  • Suggesting and information sessions, organizing college visits, and scheduling interviews
  • Creating a student-specific timeline for application


Essays and Applications

The college application is a chance for the student to convey their talents and experiences in high school through a series of essays, short answers and recommendations from teachers. This process includes:

  • Creating a strategy for completing applications
  • Helping students brainstorm for each essay and question
  • Hosting late summer application bootcamps (held in Hong Kong and Vancouver and working individually with students)
  • Assisting in online application submission
  • The development of Portfolios/Auditions/Athletic Assistance (if applicable)
  • Advising on strategies for recommendation letters


Selecting and Enrolling

Once your student has received all of his/her admissions-decision letters, we will discuss college options with you. If necessary, we will follow up on all wait-list decisions and provide timely updates.  We will continue to advise your child until he/she has selected and enrolled in a college or university. We offer:

  • Assistance in correspondence between student and schoo
  • Waitlist Assistance (if applicable)
  • Discussion of all the school options with the student
  • Suggestions of which school is most appropriate for the student
  • Assistance in communicating the student’s acceptance and rejection of offers
  • Suggestions and advice on dorms, roommates, meal plans, etc.
  • Suggestions for course enrollment and summer plans
